Welcome to SMTS, your new Theatre Family!
Whether you are a veteran of the stage, or you are just beginning to find your voice - you always have a place at SMTS. In this society we celebrate creativity, diversity and imagination - all through the medium of Musical Theatre. Our members hale from all across Glasgow and beyond, with some even joining us from other colleges and universities. We are one of only a few armature dramatics societies to feature an Open Chorus Policy, whereby, all members are given the opportunity to perform in our chorus regardless of the outcome of any soloist auditions they may choose to undertake. We also work in close partnership with the SMTS Pit Band Collective, an instrumental ensemble of up to 16 highly skilled student/Glasgow based musicians who accompany us during performances.
In addition, we also offer plenty of opportunities Behind the Scenes. If you are an aspiring Director, Choreographer, Stage Manager, Composer/Arranger, Props Master, Costume Designer etc. then we will most definitely support you to reach that ambition.
If you are looking for a safe space to geek-out about Musical Theatre, belt out showtunes, and laugh harder than you ever have before – sign up today! We rehearse on Mondays & Tuesdays on the Strathclyde University Campus.
As we move on from the challenges brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, we as a society, emerge even stronger and with greater determination to make the upcoming academic year more memorable than ever. We intend to maximise and facilitate as many safe in-person performance opportunities as possible, and we have few in the works already...
Semester 1
This Semester, we will be working towards our first in-person performance since January 2020. SMTS MISCAST 2021 will take place at the end of November (official dates tbc.) and the performance will run over two consecutive evenings in aid of a charitable cause still to be decided by members of the society.
Soloist Auditions will take place in the final week of September – email us at strathclydemusicalsociety@outlook.comThis link will open in a new tab for more information if you are not yet a member of the society but would like to come and audition.
Semester 2
This Semester we will work towards performing a FULL-LENGTH MUSICAL. The Musical is yet to be chosen, but will be selected from a list of Board approved Shows and finalised via a vote by society members.
The Musical is likely to consist of 4 performances (3 evenings and 1 matinee) at the beginning of June 2022, by which point the University’s formal assessment period will have concluded, thus, avoiding scheduling conflicts with exams.
