Formed in late 2012, Strathclyde University Jazz Orchestra (SUJO) is a student-led, student-directed music ensemble dedicated to the performance of jazz, popular and contemporary music. The band is audition-free and aims to create a fun and inclusive environment for amateur musicians at the University to enjoy the creation and consumption of music. With weekly rehearsals and plenty of performance opportunities, it offers a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their skills in performing jazz music and in improvisation. Throughout the year, the band runs various gigs, collaborating with other music societies within the university and beyond in venues from Strath Union to Cottiers Theatre for their headline gig. Fourteen years on from its inception, SUJO continues to grow and evolve with around 30 members in 2025/26, and with a smaller ensemble recently forming within the band dedicated to the performance of standards and developing improvisation skills. More information about Strathclyde University Jazz Orchestra, including information on how to join, can be found on the Strath Union website or via our socials @strathjazz.
SUJO is grateful for the generous financial and administrative support it receives from Strath Union and the University of Strathclyde's Alumni Fund, as well as the support of its members.
