Join us in our first session as we explore key terms, historic movements and moments that affect university life, and the decolonial project, as we seek to co-construct the academy as a (re)humanising space for socially just learning and community-building.

Following Maldonado-Torres’ (2007, p. 243) words,

coloniality survives colonialism. It is maintained alive in books, in the criteria for academic performance, in cultural patterns, in common sense, in the self image of peoples, in aspirations of self, and so many other aspects of our modern experience. In a way, as modern subjects we breath coloniality all the time and everyday.

The Strath Decolonial Academy is a place of co-creation and collaboration. In this space, we hope to interrogate de/coloniality within the university, how this affects us, as well as how we might think, do, and be differently.

Join us for in-person meet-ups and planned engagement activities where we will share and discuss our experiences of power, belonging (and not belonging) within the university space. Help us create new words and visions for university life and culture as we build a digital archive of decolonial activity. Or, just come to make friends and community as we build solidarities across our inherent differences.
