TL328, Teaching & Learning Building
The third Societies GM of the year will be taking place on Thursday 5th February from 17:30 to 19:30 in TL328 in the Teaching & Learning Building.
Socs Exec By-Election
This GM will be especially important because we have a Socs Exec by-election taking place! Sadly, Chep Jackson has had to step down from their role on Socs Exec as they are no longer a student. Chep has been a member of Socs Exec since 2024, and was a fantastic member of the team, so we want to thank them and wish them all the best for the future.
Chep's departure means we need to fill their place on the committee - and will therefore be running a by-election at the GM. Any student can stand to serve up to two terms on Socs Exec, and you can nominate yourself by emailing us at strathunion.societies@strath.ac.uk - we will also accept nominations at the GM.
The responsibilities of the Societies Executive are as follows:
• Attend all Societies Executive committee meetings, GMs and AGM unless apologies are given in advance;
• The Societies Executive committee will aim to meet fortnightly throughout term-time;
• Minutes will be kept of all meetings of the Societies Executive committee and these minutes will be made available on the website when they are approved.
• Be aware of and operate within the union’s financial procedures;
• Ensure policy of the Union is adhered to;
• Discuss and create development opportunities for societies;
• Attend other meetings, training and events that relate to their role.
GM Attendance
Please note that all societies are required to send at least one member to attend the GM. Please ensure that someone from your society will be in attendance - if you want to send more than one person that's absolutely fine but please ensure at least one person, ideally from your committee, will be there.
If no-one from your society is able to attend, you must send apologies. Please email us at strathunion.societies@strath.ac.uk and ensure you include GM Apologies in the subject line and clearly state the name of your society.
Societies which don't attend and don't send apologies may be considered to be inactive and have access to Union resources and finances suspended.
If you are only able to attend online, please email us at strathunion.societies@strath.ac.uk and ensure you include GM Online in the subject line, and we will send you a link to join on Zoom shortly before the meeting starts. Please try to attend in-person if you can for the best experience.
