React theatre group is pleased to invite you to witness Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, deception, and trickery in our adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing!
In the land of Messinach, set in the Scottish Highlands, the story follows Leonato, his daughter Hero, and his niece Beatrice at their home where the noble commander Don Pedro and his army of soldiers, Claudio and Benedick, return. Claudio becomes instantly smitten with Hero and the pair agree to marry, all the while Benedick and Beatrice unabashedly express their displeasure towards the other.
While Don Pedro’s Illegitimate Brother, Don John, plots to ruin the marriage of Claudio and Hero, the others devise more comedic plans to trick Benedick and Beatrice into realizing their own feelings of love for each other. Through witty exchanges, masked encounters, and a series of misunderstandings, all are left asking themselves what is the truth; or what they may dare it to be.
This semester, in addition to other fundraising efforts, we will be donating a portion of our ticket sales to our chosen organisation, Birds of Paradise! A local company dedicated to making theatre more accessible and highlighting the work and performances of disabled artists.
