StrathClyde Canoe Club – Intermediate River Trip!
Fancy learning how to better pick lines, how and where to set safety and put recent leading and safety courses to practice? Join StrathClyde Canoe Club on our Intermediate River Trip! See Club Competency Matrix to assess your level (should meet all criteria of minimum level) (any questions message instagram). Location tbc as dependent on water levels!
Please ask if unsure about skill level, no refund if tickets are purchased by those not at sufficient level for trip. See other trips more suitable for less experienced members!
Targeted at Intermediate (Low) and Intermediate (High) paddlers, but all levels above welcome! Members will gain more out of this trip if they are capable of peer safety and rescues in g3.
E: Intermediate (Low):
Fundamental kayaking skills at the level required for Paddle Sports Leader
Working at the level required for White Water Safety.
Capable of picking their own line on grade 3 features, however requires some instruction to get out the most of the trip/ advice on routes.
Capable of making most eddies, crossing flow, maintaining direction and achieving desired line on grade 3 features
Should be able to roll most of the time and able to self rescue if required
Should be proactive at pool sessions in developing personal skills and asking for help/ instruction when needed.
D: Intermediate (High):
Fundamental kayaking skills at the level required for Paddle Sports Touring Leader.
Has White Water Safety and is capable of performing safety on grade 3(3+): chase boating and equipment rescues, and proactive at choosing locations to set safety from.
Should be independent and capable of picking their own line on grade 3(3+).
Capable of making most eddies, crossing flow and maintaining direction.
Meet at Strathclyde Sport at 9am! You must have completed swim test and wet exit and have Canoe Club and Sports Union Membership! We expect to return around 7pm
We’ll provide all the kit, safety cover, and coaching; you’ll need – bring a towel, clothes to wear under a wetsuit, shoes to wear on the water, and your sense of adventure. It’s a great way to meet new people, get outdoors, and see Scotland from a totally different angle.
Intermediate level kayakers will be given the oppertunity to practice line picking, safety and assisting with the leadership of groups. This will be ran and supported by qualified leaders.
