About the Role

• We’ll be carrying out practical conservation tasks including:
• Path maintenance and improvement
• Planting native hedgerow trees
• General site enhancement to improve access and biodiversity

This is a hands-on opportunity ideal for anyone who enjoys working outdoors, learning new skills, and contributing to meaningful environmental and community impact.

Castlemilk Park is surrounded by communities ranked within the bottom 10% of the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD). By improving paths and planting trees, you’ll be helping to:

• Create safer, more welcoming green spaces
• Increase biodiversity and climate resilience
• Support community wellbeing and pride

Timings & Transport

Minibus pick-up: 9.30am from Killermont Street, Glasgow (back door of the Royal Concert Hall)

On-site session: Approx. 10.00–10.15am until 2.30pm

What to Wear

Please come prepared for outdoor conservation work:

• Old, warm outdoor clothing you don’t mind getting dirty or muddy
• Waterproof jacket and trousers
• Sturdy footwear (wellies or walking boots are ideal — trainers are not suitable)

March site conditions are likely to be cool, damp, and muddy underfoot, particularly during tree planting.

What’s Provided

• Tea and coffee on site
• Tools and all necessary PPE (including gloves)
• Safety briefing before work begins
• Limited waterproofs available — please provide sizes in advance if required

We recommend bringing:

• A packed lunch
• Water and snacks

There are toilet facilities on site, and the park is close to local amenities.

Who Can Get Involved?

No prior experience is necessary — just enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in. Full guidance and support will be provided throughout the day.
